I know this will be long, so I will present this in pro’s & con’s, a summary of my background a little, a summery of my experiences, and then a more detailed follow up on some of those pro’s/con’s.

All in all, my wife and I are really happy with it. It’s only been the first week, so time will tell.

Some of the pro’s and con’s might appear to be double listed, as some are a plus and a minus.

PRO’S

* Sucks – pulls dirt out of somewhere where my last vacuum couldn’t find it.

* a bit quieter than any vacuum I have had…lower pitch as well. My wife and i can actually talk a reasonable levels when the vacuum is running.

* Vacuum head self adjust to floor, so no bending down to turn the @!#$ switch on most vacuums.

* Attachments lock into place, so they don’t come off when using them

* Dirt canister removes as one unit (no dirt on the floor), dumps out of bottom over a trash can

Great, but has design flaws., October 3, 2011

The DC41 is a great product and is probably the best vacuum out there. But that hasn’t stopped me from noticing a few defects. There are really 2 major ones that nearly made me return this product.

The first issue is that they got rid of the foot lever that typical vacuums have to engage the beater bar. Instead you just force it down and start vacuuming and when you are done you just put it back up and it latches and stays upright. This is pretty neat but when you are putting it upright there are 2 distinct things that happen, it engages the wand hose and then it engages the lock that holds it up. The switch for the hose is much louder and happens first so this leads you to believe the vacuum is upright and to let go when it is not latched properly causing it to fall over if you are not quick enough to catch it. This makes me respond by putting it upright much more forcefully then I want to do to something I’ve bought for nearly 0.

Mostly awesome, November 7, 2011

I had a Hoover WindTunnel for about 11 years before replacing it with the DC41. I’ve had the Dyson now for a few days and here are my thoughts:

PROS

- As many others experienced, I was completely grossed out by the amount of dirt that the Dyson picked up the first time I vacuumed. I don’t know if this is a result of a superior suction or beater bar (which does seem stronger/faster than my old Hoover… the carpet is actually *warm* as I step into where the Dyson just vacuumed) but it’s definitely satisfying.

- Lighter than the WindTunnel. I know others have complained about the weight but it is way lighter and easier to carry than the big self-propelled Hoover.

- Quieter than the WindTunnel. If I need to say something to my husband, I can actually do it without pausing and shutting off the Dyson.

CONS

- The cord, as many have complained about, is not self-retracting. Instead, it winds around the back of the vacuum. I’d…

These are the original, OEM version. They work just fine. I reccomend purchasing them this way because saves trip to store.

What can be said about vacuum bags, September 30, 2011

I bought these replacement vacuum bags for my Panasonic canister vacuum. They are the same type of bag that came with the unit, so they work fine. I needed bags for weeks, but every time I was at a store, I had forgotten the name of the vacuum and the type of bag required. Ordering online from Amazon was much easier for me – no trips to the store, and the vacuum was right next to me for reference.

OK Choice, But Not for Heavy Duty Work, July 30, 2009

I’m used to a more heavy duty type blower ( over 160 mph ) , either electric or gas powered with a much more powerful force for blowing. I use them both a lot

I got this one for light duty work. Just clearing away leaves / dust / etc from a sidewalk, driveway, or patio. It does OK at this, but NOT for any kind of heavy duty use, it does not have the power

You only have about 10 mins of battery life and power. it’s a single speed blower ( the bigger blowers may have 2 speeds ), the Earthwise website says it blows 140 mph but I doubt it

If there is a light breeze blowing against you forget it. The breeze has more influence than the battery blower does. May the breeze be at your back instead.

Pros: Lightweight and easy to use, good for a 5 minute job sweeping away light debris from a walk way / driveway / patio, Quiet compared to the more powerful blowers

Cons: 18V BATTERY is a major weak spot, only 10 mins power. They…

Works really well for my yard needs., May 14, 2009

So far I have no complaints about the cordless blower. It has the power I need and is really light to use.

The battery is easy to charge with the included charger and gives me enough time to complete blowing off my driveway, patio and sidewalk.

All in all, the Earthwise CB20018 18 Volt Cordless Blower is a good product and I would recommend it to anyone that has an average sized lawn.

Great small-area leaf blower!, September 20, 2009

I’ve had this leaf blower for about a month, and I use it to clear off my 12′ x 14′ deck and same-sized driveway. It’s lightweight, super easy to use, and exactly what I was looking for! Not only do I use it for leaf-blowing, but it works for clearing debris from my plantings as well as blowing small amounts of standing water after rainstorms (mosquito control). The battery lasts for approximately 3 cleanups–not quite as long as I would expect, but this is only a minor inconvenience because it could be charged after every use (the battery doesn’t have a ‘memory’).

How it works –

The attachment is around a foot long (including bristles); it is a lint remover brush-head surrounded by soft plastic bristles. The red area is the lint remover (think of the dog hair removal brushes your mom uses); it has two suction holes – one at the head, one at the base – which allow the swept dust to be sucked into the vacuum while running. When both holes are covered (such as when doing a large, flat surface) the suction is as powerful as any of the other Dyson wand attachments. When only one hole is covered or there is a break in the surface between the two holes (smaller surfaces or blinds) the suction is still strong, but not quite as “vice-like.” The idea behind the brush is that the vacuum action will suck in all the dust instead of allowing it to escape into the air. In this regard, the Dyson seems to leave a much smaller “dust footprint” than manual dusters because it does not cause dust clouds. As with all Dyson wand attachments, the dusting…

Get it ONLY if you need it!, August 5, 2006

I think this attachment is “good enough” and I do use it about once a month for heavy dusting around the house. It is not, however, the super-useful dusting brush I thought I was getting.

The brush does NOT dust flat surfaces well. Not only does it kind of push a little of the dust ahead of the bristles, never really sucking it up and leaving “streaks”, but it has the tendency to suction itself down HARD to the flat surface. This gets annoying. Because of this, I do not use it for all-over flat surface dusting.

What the duster is GREAT for are blinds, ceiling fans and the curves of wood moulding. We have a big black dog and do need to dust blinds & fans more often. A few swipes and the job is done. Same thing when I dust the furniture crevices and mouldings – the duster works great.

I do not like to dust base boards with it because somehow as the brush drags along, it seems to statically charge the carpet and the baseboard and any stray dog…

I LOVED using this attachment on my keyboards!!! It works so much better than the canned air does.

Of course, it did equally well on my blinds, lamp shades, tv and other electronics… I could go on and on.

After reading the reviews I wasn’t sure what to expect or if I would even be happy my purchase. I think part of the expectations is the buyers motivation for wanting such a device. The only 2 motivations that I can think of is get away from chemicals in your home or a device to ease with cleaning. If you are trying to get away from chemicals, I think you will be happy. If you’re motivation is the latter, you may or may be not happy, I think then it boils down to what you’re expecting it to do. If you are expecting not to put any effort into cleaning, you may be happier hiring a cleaning service. Otherwise I still think you may be happy with it on certain jobs.

My personal motivation is that I am trying to get away from the use of chemicals in my home. With that said, at the very least I figured I could clean with water, elbow grease, E-clothes (micro fiber clothes), and then go back over to steam what I cleaned to kill any germs or bacteria.

Tiny flaws but well worth the purchase., May 27, 2010

A Journalism Professor of mine once said that when writing a recommendation, one should make a distinction as to whether they are going to write a “review” or a “critique”.

The “Reviewer”, the Professor went on to say, tells the audience WHAT they should see; while the “Critic” should tell the audience WHY they should or should not see. As a reviewer I must join the many users of this small steam wonder who think it’s the best thing since sliced bread. Not perfect, but it truly is a time saver and a blessing for those of us to which “clean” MEANS clean and not “Pretty good except for that one spot…”. The HS-20 is easy to fill with plain water, (no additives needed – I prefer distilled water though)It heats up in a very reasonable time and absolutely gets in to clean every spot imaginable for a thorough (especially around the bases of bathtubs and toilets)cleaning.

This handheld steamer is wonderful.I use for pet stains on carpeting fisrt spraying a small amount of stain remover and it does a great job. I also use it for my juice extractor to get beta carotene buildup off.

Anyone who uses an extractor daily knows what I’m talking about.No amount of hand scrubing gets that off. It heats very quickly,the attachments are good and eay to switch out. I had another brand and it

was a piecs of junk.I bought this based on reviews I read of other Haan products.Its easy to use,substantisl without being heavy or awkward to
